Thomas N’kono……Is It Another Golden Stripe On Cameroon’s Belt?

Born in the mid-50s this legend of Cameroon Football who stands at an appealing height of 1.85m has saved the hid of Cameroon football on many occasions. Before the 2000s hit us we had great goalkeepers like Jacque Songo’o, Joseph Antoine Bell, Alioum Boukar, etc.

Born in the town of Dizangue in the Littoral region of Cameroon he played in one of Cameroon’s biggest clubs Tonnere Club Yaounde and Canon Club Yaounde in the Mid 70s were he got the nickname “Le Chat Noir” before later on moving to Spain. In Spain, he did pretty good in RCD Espanol and he had a good performance at world cup 1982 he received France Football African Footballer Of The Year. He has made a total of 563 appearances both domestic and abroad. Gianluigi Buffon declared he decided to play in the goalkeeping position after seeing N’Kono’s performances at the 1990 World Cup. In addition, he named his first son Louis Thomas in the Cameroonian’s honor

He has recently been nominated in the Ballon D’Or categories of Best goalkeepers of All Time. In that same categories, we can find big names like Iker Casillas, Gianluigi Buffon, Peter Schmeichel, Edwin Van der Sar Etc all against one African player in that category. All these awards go in light to create a Ballon D’or Dream Team
